Amal Jama’iyy – The Organised Islamic Mission PDF Print E-mail
1. Ali Imran 104
“And that there might grow out of you a community (of people) who invite unto all that is good, and enjoin the doing of what is right and forbid the doing of what is wrong: and it is they, they who shall attain to a happy state!”

Al Saff 4
“Verily, God loves (only) those who fight in His cause in (solid) ranks, as though they were a building firm and compact.”

The Islamic solution or renaissance requires the existence of Islamic movements conscious and insaf in preparing the environment and to call upon the masses. These Islamic efforts – Islamisation needs a collective effort – organisational competency , in other words, an organised Islamic mission which plans and strategises its activities.

Amal jama’iyy can be understood as all activities which come about from a competent organisation in accordance to specific schemes and aiming towards specified objectives in the search of Allah’s pleasure (mardatillah).

3. Its Importance

• Islam wants us to be united, cooperating and to work together towards achieving good and God consciousness (taqwa).

• The Ummah – the Muslim community consists of individuals with a common bond which holds them together.

• The obligation to establish Islamic society needs organised work and cooperation i.e. a planned and strategised organisation:

Methodology of Islamic Jurisprudence:

Something becomes obligatory if another obligation cannot be achieved or cannot be performed unless it is done.

• The combined efforts and energies focussed and aimed towards a common objective is more viable, feasible and effective rather than individual attempts , however sincere or genuine.

• Our adversaries are well organised and collective. Therefore, organisations have to be faced by organisations.

4. Characteristics

• A responsible leadership which practises syura (mutual consultations)

• Loyal and dedicated members and supporters

• Planning and Strategising

Aims and objectives

Strategies towards implementation – permitted (halal), suitable and relevant, flexible, gradual and realistic.

Stages of implementation

The right and proper attitudes and adopting principled positions

• Preparedness in facing the outcomes of planning and destiny (taqdir) – the ability to overcome factors outside what is planned and unforeseen events.

5. Prerequisites to Success

Developing the Muslim Generation:

• Strong and resilient iman –faith
• High morals – akhlak
• Holistic worldview, awareness, consciousness – religious knowledge, the mission, the struggle, situational analysis
• Bond of brotherhood –the universal tie that overcomes class, status and ethnicity
• Commitment and steadfastness – resolved to work hard, to make rigorous effort
• Spreading the message and interacting in all situations, in every level of society and all walks of life
• Culture and high commitment to knowledge
• Thinkers and leaders flourish aplenty
• Credibility, skills, competency, specialisation in all fields, arts, sciences, professional, technology, literature, economics, business, media etc.

Total Support from the Community (Ummah)

An ummah who will always support and remains loyal to Islamic thought, respects its leaders and its scholars, its people of knowledge; feels intimately imbued with a strong sense of belonging to its struggles and the community which aspires and wishes for its success; but remains thoughtful and wary of the adversaries’ moves and intentions.

The people, the public , the masses have to be defended, their causes championed and their standards raised, uplifted, honoured and social responsibilities, social justice be established.

This is then known as the best community – the best ummah – khayra ummah.

Overcoming all Obstacles and Tribulations

• Lack of knowledge
• Alien and external influences
• Differences of opinion
• Self interests and worldly attractions
• Elitist and being far apart from society
• Static, unable to move forward nor improvise
• Weak organisation and planning
• No commitment to knowledge
